The Showroom

The Showroom in Lincoln is a world class youth centre aimed at the deprived young people in the county. Designed and project managed from inception to handover by Macdonald Design. The project cost £5 million and was opened in April 2011.

In 2009 Lincolnshire YMCA were invited to join a group to look at a world class youth facility for Lincoln. The government had allocated significant sums of money under the banner of “myplace”. They were asked to take the lead by the consortium and applied for funding. They were successful in securing £4,842,500 to buy and refurbish a former car showroom on Tritton Road.

Macdonald Design were appointed to be the architects for the new project by Lincolnshire YMCA and following the award, they spent time consulting with many different partners and associates across the area, especially young people, to develop the centre.

Following months of design and consultation work, a plan was agreed by all partners with construction commencing in the Summer of 2010. The project was completed early in 2011 amid much local fanfare with Sir Steve Redgrave officially opening the project on Monday April 4th, 2011.

See below for Sir Steve Redgrave’s positive comments on this fantastic project that will benefit the lives of young people in Lincoln for years to come.
